UNH Summer Youth Programs 2024

The University of New Hampshire offers over 30 programs on its campuses and other locations throughout the state. UNH Summer Youth Programs offer:

  • A supportive, safe, inclusive and fun learning environment
  • Experienced staff including University faculty, staff, students, and other industry experts
  • State-of-the-art facilities

UNH School Vacation Camps
UNH Youth Programs offers Wildcat Vacation Camp over the April (22-26, 2024) School Vacation! Join UNH Campus Recreation for an action-packed week of sports, arts & crafts, free swim, hobbies, and adventure activities held at the Hamel Recreation Center, Swasey Indoor Pool, and outdoor fields and courts.

Academic Enrichment Programs

Our faculty, staff and students, along with teachers and expert guests, offer a wide array of academic enrichment programs designed to keep young learners engaged. Students expand their knowledge through new and thought-provoking activities.

4-H Teen Conference: June 23-26 (grades 9-12)
Teens from across the state participate in four days of activities and workshops on a multitude of topics. Students do not have to be 4-H members to participate.

Camp Pageturner: weekly sessions, June 24-August 2 (grades 1-5)
At Camp Pageturner, children spend each week exploring their passions through a literacy lens. Participants will read books, use their imagination, and take part in all sorts of creative writing.

Upward Bound Summer Academy: June 23-August 2 (grades 9-12)
A 6-week, federally funded program that gives students the skills to succeed in high school and college. This program is free to eligible students.

Writers Academy: June 24-28, July 8-12 (grades 5-12)
Day camp designed for young writers who will write daily and exchange ideas with other young writers. They will discover various writing styles and meet professional authors.

Future Leaders Institute: July 28-August 3 (grades 9-12)
An overnight program in Philosophy, Politics, Ethics, and Global Justice. Ambitious high school students come together to learn, debate, argue, and write persuasively in a collaborative environment.

UNH Extension & 4-H

Arts Programs

Our arts programs immerse students in the visual and performing arts where they learn new methods and skills, and participate in performance events. Students have access to UNH’s Performing Arts Center with its 700-seat theatre, the UNH Museum of Art, and other studio and performance space.

Summer Theatre Arts Retreat for Students (STARS): July 8-12, Dance Intensive: July 15-19 (grades 1-12)
Day camps that cover a wide variety of skills and genres: storytelling, musical theatre, drama, dance and more!

Summer Youth Music School (SYMS): July 13-17 (grades 7-9), July 20-28 (grades 10-12)
A longstanding and popular music program with outstanding professional staff. Students concentrate on an instrument or voice part and choose electives to broaden their experience.

Athletic Camps

UNH Athletics offers camps in a fun and encouraging, yet competitive environment for a variety of sports. Each camp, through team play and individual activities, will enhance current skills and help a student progress by learning new skills. All camps are held on the UNH campus in Durham and utilize state-of-the-art facilities and playing fields.

STEM Programs
(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)

Elementary Program Introducing Computing (EPIC): June 24-28, July 1-5 (grades 4-7)
EPIC is a day camp designed to inspire the next generation of computing innovators by engaging students in learning computational thinking skills and programming fundamentals. Sessions topics are Robotic Programming and Physical Computing.

UNH InterOperability Lab (IOL) Summer Internship: July 8-August 8 (grade 12)
The UNH InterOperability Lab (IOL) HighTech Bound internship is a five-week, paid summer internship for rising high school seniors who gain real-world experience working with the latest technology.

KEEPERS: July 1-3 (grades 2-4)
Kids Eager for Engineering Program with Elementary Research-based Science (KEEPERS) partners with Camp Pageturner for campers to explore inventing, engineering, math and literacy activities.

Marine Environmental Science: July 29-August 5, July 29-August 12, August 5-12 (grades 10-12)
Held at Shoals Marine Lab on Appledore Island, high school students can earn college credits in courses such as Marine Environmental Science and Intro to the Biology of Sharks, Skates, and Rays. Students learn through lab exercises, field work, explorations, and excursions to neighboring islands.

Tech Camp: July 8-12, July 15-19, July 22-26 (grades 5-12)
Tech Camp & the Dinah Whipple STEAM academy engages students in interactive, hands-on, problem- solving activities in areas of science, technology, engineering, and math.

Recreational & Water Activities

Aquatics (Learn to Swim): June-August
Group, semi-private, and private swimming lessons available throughout the summer at the UNH Outdoor Pool.

Sailing, Kayaking, and Paddelboarding: weekly sessions, June 24-August 9 (ages 5-18)
The UNH Community Sailing Centre at Mendums Pond offers weekly sessions for all skill levels. The primary aim is to encourage fun on the water and to build self-confidence while learning skills that are enjoyed over a lifetime.

Camp Wildcat: weekly sessions, June 24-August 9 (grades 1-7)
Camp Wildcat day camp offers weekly themed sessions. Campers explore nature and the environment, participate in sports, learn new skills and crafts, make new friends, and have fun while being active!

Barry Conservation 4-H Camp: weekly sessions, June 23-August 7 (ages 8-17)
Held in the White Mountain National Forest, Barry camps are for kids who love the outdoors, enjoy hands-on learning and like a small camp environment.
