Now is a great time of year for short cuts and these six DIY life hacks are perfectly suited to summer!

DIY Mosquito Yard Spray

This home-grown mosquito repellent brew has been around for years, and apparently it works! My in-laws tried it this summer and swear by it. The recipe is said to eliminate mosquitoes gone from sprayed areas for approximately 80 days.

What you’ll need:

  • Big bottle of cheap blue mouthwash
  • 3 cups of Epsom salt
  • 3 stale 12 oz. cheap beer

Directions:

  • Mix three ingredients together until salt is dissolved
  • Spray anywhere you sit outside, around pools, will not harm plants or flowers
Baby Powder removes Beach Sand

Sandy kids + clean car = not a good time. Veteran parents know this little life hack and it was one of my favorite discoveries when my kids were little. It’s so easy, you’ll freak. Works on wet or dry sand.

What you’ll need:

  • Bottle of baby powder
  • Towel

Directions:

  • Sprinkle the sandy parts of your kids with baby powder.
  • Wipe off with a towel. Presto.
Ice Cream Topper

This just looks fun and your kids will LOVE it. Crush up Oreos and fill up a pepper shaker with the crumbs. Now you can top off all of your desserts with cookie bits.

Speed Chill

We’ve all had warm wine bottle emergencies, ammiright? Wrap a bottle in a wet paper towel when you put it in the freezer, and it will chill in 15 minutes.

Camping Mood Lighting

When camping, strap a head lamp to a gallon jug of water. The tent will be filled with ambient light.
