Strawbery Banke welcomes families to step into the past in-person and virtually for learning and discovery in the historic neighborhood of Puddle Dock. Explore traditional arts and crafts such as basket weaving and woodworking, learn how to write a historical fiction book, solve mysteries using documents, images, and objects, and so much more!

Journey into Colonial Life Homeschool Day

Experience daily life in the 18th century as you participate in kitchen chores in front of an open hearth, make old-fashioned toothpowder, dress up in historical costumes, simulate a stagecoach ride, and play an 18th-century school game. Participants visit two historic homes as they compare and contrast daily life 200 years ago to today. Topics include health & hygiene, school, entertainment, and daily chores. Upon arrival, families are divided into smaller groups of roughly 12 people. Journey into Colonial Life is a family program designed for children ages 5+.

Archaeology Adventure Homeschool Day
Friday, May 3, 2024, 10 AM-4 PM

Delve into the world of archaeology and discover the secrets that lie beneath your feet. Explore authentic archaeological sites, participate in an archaeology-themed scavenger hunt, visit furnished homes, meet roleplayers, and much more! Students 8-12 can sign up for additional hands-on workshops learning about what it takes to be an archaeologist and techniques for excavation. Archaeology Adventure Day is a family program designed for all ages.

Changes and Challenges: 1900-1950 Homeschool Program
Wednesdays, May 1-22, 2024
Morning session: 9:30-11 AM
Afternoon session: 12-1:30 PM

Explore history through hands-on activities focused on the early years of the 20th century. The historic buildings and gardens become homeschoolers’ classrooms as they investigate new inventions in transportation and entertainment; bake Depression-Era “make-do recipes”; and explore life on the Homefront during World War II. Changes and Challenges: 1900-1950 is a family program designed for ages 7-11. Older and younger siblings can participate, but at least one child should be in the recommended age range.
