Woods, Whales & Waterfest

May 18 @ 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Free

Join the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests to kick off the summer season at our 2nd Annual Woods, Whales & Waterfest at The Forest Society Education Center at Creek Farm in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The festival will be on Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is free to all. The event is also brought to you by Blue Ocean Society and Gundalow Company.

The Woods, Whales, & Water festival will feature Blue Ocean Society’s incredible life-size blow-up whale, “Ladder,” on hand for programs at 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Ladder is a 65-foot fin whale modeled after a real fin whale in the Gulf of Maine that the Blue Ocean Society studied from 1996 to 2018, when he passed away. Fin whales are an endangered species, and the second-largest animal on Earth. It’s one thing to learn about the size of these amazing animals, but now students (and adults) can really get a sense of how big they are by going inside this inflatable whale. The Gundalow Company will be at the Education Center and down at the water on Sagamore Creek leading kayak exploration and fun as well. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., families have many more activities to choose from at the festival:

• Explore the Little Harbor Loop Trail with a scavenger hunt.

• Check out kayaks, paddles, and gear for recreation on the water.

• Learn about marine debris and what you can do to help by participating in a beach cleanup.

“The Forest Society is pleased to welcome visitors to Creek Farm this summer,” states Dave Anderson, senior director of education for the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. “This is our second Woods, Whales & Waterfest and we hope to share the wonder of Little Harbor with visitors and locals. We are so grateful for our partners, the Blue Ocean Society and Gundalow Company.”
