Evan is boy in Hampton, NH who has been diagnosed with a rare type of pediatric brain cancer, called diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) back on July 15, 2019. Our hopes with this day are to spread awareness on what DIPG is and the lack of funds that go to support childhood cancer research. Currently, there is no cure for DIPG and research for pediatric cancer is significantly underfunded. About 4% of federal funding for cancer research is allocated to pediatric cancer research, and less than 1% of that goes towards brain cancer research. This is mainly because DIPG is considered rare; as only 150 – 300 children in the United States are diagnosed. Research funding is mainly backed by a few organizations, which rely heavily on DIPG families; own fundraising efforts.

The Austin family is hoping that spreading awareness will lead to more funding, more research, and ultimately one day, a cure.
