Nature Walk Wednesdays – Who’s Asleep?

April 12, 2023 @ 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

Miss Lisa invites you to join her for some family-friendly seasonal nature walks in the area. Together we will explore the salt marsh, the woods, and more. We will look for birds, mammals, and of course, mushrooms! We’ll use our “science eyes” and “nature ears” and learn, play, and discover together.

March 15: Who’s Asleep? (Maudslay State Park, Newburyport)
Some mammals build up fat, make winter homes, and sleep all winter. Let’s find out who these animals are, and with games and experiments, learn all about hibernation!
March 22: Who’s Awake? (Deer Island, Amesbury)
Some mammals store food, grow thicker fur, and make dens or burrows in winter. Let’s find out which animals are active and look for their tracks in the snow!
March 29: Signs of Spring (Location to be determined)
Frogs are calling and birds are singing, which means spring is coming! Let’s explore a spring pool and see what signs of life we can find.
April 5: Wake Up Spring! (Hans Morris Reservation, Newbury)
In early spring, our wetlands are warming up, and the tiny insects and snails are awake and looking for food. Let’s see what creatures we can discover living in flooded meadows and small streams.
April 12: Spring on the River (Joppa Flats Salt Marsh, Newburyport)
Life in a salt marsh comes back every spring with new grasses, returning egrets, herons, and shorebirds. Once again the “nursery of the sea” is bursting with fish and tiny creatures. Let’s explore and learn about them and why their habitat is so important.
