When spring returns each year, many of us look forward to birds chirping, flowers blooming, and the promise of warmer days. Around Easter time, rabbits often become the “symbol” of the season, and families may decide to adopt or buy a rabbit to add to their home. But, caring for a rabbit is a BIG commitment, and many animal shelters end up seeing an increase in rabbits being surrendered in the spring. Even worse, many owners end up releasing their domesticated rabbits outdoors when they realize they aren’t prepared to care for them!

Here at the NHSPCA, we know firsthand how adorable rabbits are! And we know just how much work goes into caring for a rabbit! This spring, we are hosting our first ever Make Mine Chocolate! event. Inspired by the Make Mine Chocolate! campaign, we’d like to invite children ages 7-13 to join us at the Learning Center for Pets and People on Wednesday April 13th from 3:30-4:45 pm to learn about what it takes to care for a rabbit and why sometimes it’s better to choose stuffed or chocolate rabbits over live rabbits. In addition to learning about the needs of rabbits as pets, kids will also have opportunities to interact with rabbits and will complete a rabbit-themed craft.
