CraneExplorer: Shipwreck Scholars

November 5, 2022 @ 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Coastal views with a side of shipwreck! Families will be guided on a Castle Hill hike through the salt marsh, dunes, and beach, while learning about local nautical history, including the role of Fox Creek Canal and Robinson Boat Yard in the area’s shipbuilding legacy, and the fascinating tale of the schooner Ada K Damon, wrecked on Steep Hill Beach in 1909. Participants will have the chance to make observations and measurements of the shipwreck, to learn how marine archaeologists and the Trustees are working to research and protect such artifacts.
This program has been developed in partnership with the MA Board of Underwater Archaeological Resources, and participants may get the chance to meet our state Underwater Archaeologist during the program.
Consider adding an optional fire pit experience after the hike – add both tickets to your cart and check out in one transaction.
CraneExplorer events are designed to appeal to families with children ages 5-12 while giving their parents a great opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Crane Estate. Hikes cover less ground to accommodate smaller strides and have more frequent stops to look, listen, and learn from our CraneOutdoors guides. Interactive education programs include hands-on activities to engage learners of all ages.
Please be aware that we do walk the full two hours and cover approximately 2-3 miles. As such, parental discretion on your child’s ability to manage this activity is advised.
Family pricing is for one “average” nuclear family (approximately 2 adults and 2 children). If you have a larger family or want to bring additional family members please purchase additional tickets. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
