Come into the Joppa Flats back yard to create a model freshwater pond in a tub with your family! We’ll give you access to pond water, pond plants, and a variety of aquatic invertebrates including aquatic insects, nymphs, and snails. Learn about life cycles and adaptations of frogs and dragonflies, and meet our turtle Donatello!

Instructions and Directions:
At Joppa Flats, please enter the parking lot via the first driveway on your left past the house on stilts (signs say “Do Not Enter”). Check-in is outside at the picnic table at the left-front of the building. You’ll be directed to the back yard, where you’ll settle in at your family’s science station. Each family science station will be placed at a safe distance from others.
SAFETY STANDARDS
All programs will adhere to COVID-19 guidelines recommended by the CDC and Massachusetts Department of Health.
– Programs are limited to a maximum of 9 participants
– All participants will wear a mask or facial covering for the duration of the program
– All participants will maintain a safe social distance of 6 feet from other families during the program, and when entering and exiting the back yard
– Staff will wear masks and comply with social distancing requirements
– All materials and supplies will be properly sanitized before and after use
– Access to the Joppa Flats Education Center building and restrooms is not available
– An outdoor hand washing station with water and soap will be available
– Hand sanitizer must not be used for the safety of our live animals
– Participants must fill out a self health assessment form
Cancellation policy: Please notify us at least 24 hours prior to the first day of this series if you must cancel. If you cancel less than 24 hours ahead, we can only offer a refund or credit if we subsequently fill your space. Refunds are not given for failure to attend, absence, or sick days. If we must cancel a session, you will receive a full refund.
