Ogunquit Playhouse Summer Camps

Ogunquit Playhouse Arts Academy provides world-class theatre education in the form of courses, camps, and workshops, from working Broadway and Regional Theatre professionals, to children and young adults particularly those who may not otherwise have access to such resources nor this level of focused study and attention.

Junior Players
(Ages 11-18*)

All students will participate in the performances, but roles will be by video audition. If a student wishes to be in the ensemble only, they do not need to submit an audition video. Audition videos are due to the Director the Saturday before the start of each camp.

Disney’s Frozen, Jr.
Ages 13 to 18

Back by popular demand! The enchanting modern classic from Disney is based on the 2018 Broadway hit musical, and brings Elsa, Anna, and the magical land of Arendelle to life, onstage. The show features all of the memorable songs from the animated film, with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, plus five new songs written for the Broadway production. A story of true love and acceptance between sisters, Frozen JR. expands upon the emotional relationship and journey between Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood. With a cast of beloved characters and loaded with magic, adventure, and plenty of humor, Frozen JR. is sure to thaw even the coldest heart!

Prince Street Player’s Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland, the most frequently quoted and well-known children’s story of all time, is brought to life by The Prince Street Players, the company that has become synonymous with “theatre for young audiences.” Lewis Carroll’s unflappable young heroine, Alice, takes a tumble down an enchanted rabbit hole to an off-kilter world of mock turtles, dancing flora, punctual rabbits and mad tea parties. Playing cards hold court, and nothing is as it seems in this land where whimsy and wordplay are the order of the day. Will Alice be able to find her footing in this bizarre place? More importantly, will she ever figure out how to get home? Adapted from the book by Lewis Carroll by Jim Eiler with a Book by Jim Eiler, Music by Jeanne Bargy Jim Eiler and Lyrics by Jim Eiler and with songs like Down the Rabbit Hole, How-Ja-Do, Time for Tea and The Turtle Tango, it is sure to delight audiences young and old!

Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr.

Back by popular demand! Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl” and “Part of Your World.” Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.

Pinkalicious is based on the children’s book written by Elizabeth Kann and Victoria Kann, with illustrations by Victoria Kann was adapted for the stage and originally produced by the Vital Theater Company, Manhattan with Book and Lyrics by Elizabeth Kann and Victoria Kann and Music and Lyrics by John Gregor. The show was so popular, it received a sold out, extended run Off-Broadway at the Soho Playhouse before it reached the Ogunquit Playhouse! Pinkalicious is the story of a girl who can’t stop eating pink cupcakes despite warnings from her parents. Her pink indulgence lands her at the doctor’s office with Pinkititis, an affliction that turns her pink from head to toe – a dream come true for this pink loving enthusiast. But when her hue goes too far, only Pinkalicious can figure out a way to get out of this predicament.

Little Red Riding Hood
Ages 8 to 10
July 5 to July 10, 9AM to 2PM (1 Week Session)

Little Red is wondering why life isn’t more exciting, while Granny shows up in search of the Wolf, who has stolen her bicycle. Granny, who is a karate expert, has no fear of the Wolf, a most unusual creature who is Harvard educated (he wrote his thesis on Wolfgang Mozart), enjoys being evil, and loves little children (on whole wheat toast). When Granny has an accident (she breaks her hand practicing karate on a brick), Little Red sets out to deliver dinner to her. She goes through the woods, where she encounters a variety of forest creatures including, of course, the Wolf, who discovers her destination and arrives at Granny’s house before she does. He locks up Granny and lays a trap for Little Red. Luckily, this updated retelling retains the traditional ending as the Woodsman arrives in time to save her. The book for this new telling of this beloved tale is by Williams S. Kilborne, Jr. and Alberta Viola, with Music by Albert T. Viola and Lyrics by Williams S. Kilborne, Jr. Audiences will go out singing, Just a Little Girl, The History Lesson, The Life of the Forest, A Perfectly Wonderful Wolf, and Granny’s Song.

Could You Hug a Cactus?

Based on a collection of whimsical poems by Phillip Van Wagoner, Could You Hug A Cactus? is a new musical revue that follows a group of kids as they come together to create a show that’s bursting with poems and creativity. One by one, they each share their imaginative creations, until a nervous performer panics and refuses to contribute a poem. Can the cast help him shed self-doubt and ignite a creative spark? With a Book by Jessica Penzias and Music and Lyrics by Denver Casado, the team that brought us The Show Must Go Online and Super Happy Awesome News, kids will love the new songs like: Fine Place to Start, Buttons, Words are Words, Inside, and Give My Monster Ice Cream.

The Velveteen Rabbit

Although it is the most modest toy in the nursery, the Velveteen Rabbit earns the love of a young boy and learns about the joys and pain of becoming “Real.” Margery Williams’ classic book springs to magical life in this enchanting musical about love, loss and self-esteem, with music by the composer of the smash Off-Broadway revue I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.

The Princess and the Pea

This is a tuneful musical comedy version of the charming Hans Christian Andersen classic about Prince Peter’s search for a ’true princess.’ The Kingdom can only remain free so long as there is a royal King and Queen on the throne.  But only a ’true princess’ will feel the magic pea through a bed piled high with mattress upon mattress.

Acting & Improvisation

Whether students are beginners who have never improvised or acted before or someone who has experience, students will learn strong fundamentals that will build confidence, improve speaking skills and foster spontaneity. This new program is designed for students to be able to jump into a series of fun warm ups and games designed to build confidence and listening skills. Students will soon be playing scenes and learning how to heighten and explore unique ideas. As the class progresses students will learn how to do two person scenes, group scenes, group games and how to deliver simple monologues. This class is all about fun and support. Parents and guests will be invited to the final class to see the class in action.
