Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebrations on Monday Jan 17!

Wondering how to celebrate the MLK Jr. holiday on Monday, January 17? Here’s a few events to consider as a way to spend the day. 

MLK Jr. School Vacation Day Events, Monday 1/17

FREE admission to The Currier Museum of Art
The Currier Museum of Art will be open and FREE on Monday, January 17, is delighted to partner with the MLKNH Coalition’s 40th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day community celebration: Love is Greater than Hate. We are kicking off the live, virtual event with: Invisibility: An Art Conversation and Visual Response from 11:00 am to noon. Inspired by the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., the Currier Museum of Art will present a live program over Zoom about invisibility and related issues of love and hate. We’ll begin with a conversation about paintings by Norman Lewis and Glenn Ligon and conclude with a collaborative visual response. We encourage adults and children to attend together. MLK Day with Museum of Fine Arts

Join us the MFA for their annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Open House, presented in partnership with Citizens. This year, the MFA offers free admission—including access to special exhibitions—for Massachusetts residents. Celebrate the legacy of Dr. King by surrounding yourself with art, culture, and community! And don’t miss the magnificent art of Roxbury’s own Ekua Holmes in “Paper Stories, Layered Dreams,” on view through January 24, 2022. Anyone 12 and over must show proof of vaccination.

Free Admission to Stone Zoo and Franklin Park Zoo

Spend the day at the zoo! Guests are invited to write messages of hope and peace on murals located within the Tropical Forest Pavilion at Franklin Park Zoo, and within the Animal Discovery Center at Stone Zoo. *Starting January 15, 2022, all Franklin Park Zoo visitors age 12 and older must have proof of at least one dose of vaccination against COVID-19 to enter indoor exhibit spaces in accordance with the City of Boston’s requirement.
