Check out a local treasure for Memorial Day, the Albacore! (free for kids 7 and under!)

Is nautical stuff your thing? Albacore Park is a fantastic historical and educational activity—and it’s just plain cool! The retired submarine is open to the public for a completely hands-on tour. Walk the entire length of the vessel and turn the wheels in the engine room, look through the periscope, check out the super-tight sleeping quarters and chit chat in the communications station of this 55 (FIVETY-FIVE!) person vessel.

Have no idea what you’re looking at? No problem! The entire submarine is equipped with audio stations that share information about each area and relay interesting anecdotes of life under the sea. It’s truly an unbelievable tour.

Adults are only $7 and all kids under 7 are free (kids ages 7-17 are $3). Family packs (2 adults, 2 kids under 17) are only $14. Don’t forget to check out the Albacore website which is chock full of historical information, a virtual tour and information on shipmates.

Get down there and check out the Albacore before the crowds descend. Believe us, it feels crowded in there alone, never mind a pile of people behind you! Go get your fun on!
