Searching for a “Set to Be” Seacoast Kid! A gift of Performing Arts Classes is here – thanks to an inspired Seacoast Rep theatre go-er!

First, can we just say how honored SKC is to be thought of to help find a local student dreaming of taking dance, music or theatre classes? Truly grateful.

Secondly, what is this “Set to Be” all about? We’ll tell you here…

A local theatre go-er (who wishes to be nameless here) was recently moved by Isabella “Bean” Baer’s performance in The Music Man at Seacoast Rep last month. As he read Isabella’s bio, her name and nickname resonated deeply. His granddaughter who he admires so also goes by the nickname “Bean.” She too is talented in a way with many musical instruments and is on her way to her life goal of becoming an artist.

When the show ended he was able to meet Bean and was not only impressed with her talent but her focused and driven personality.

That afternoon he had truly enjoyed The Music Man which he saw during its theatrical release in 1962. He says it was “Full of fun and love.” He laughs that he was so enlightened he even ignored tripping on the chair as he left the Rep. This and his encounter with Isabella had him feeling he’s one of those trying to chase the what might have been. In turn he came up with giving a local child this small but perhaps very big impact of a gift.

Most of his hope is that this scholarship helps someone find self-assurance alongside their dream.

His granddaughter provided the phrase on the 18th step — Set to Be! So it is also hoped this little bit will help a young one become Set to Be!

Seacoast Rep had this to say: “This is such a heart warming story, please let this donor know that he picked an amazing role model in Bean. Not only is she an absolute joy to watch perform, she spends her time off the stage inspiring our kids every day. In fact, Bean is our Summer Camp Director this year and will be Directing our Teen Bootcamp production of “Newsies Jr.”.

“The Portsmouth Academy of Arts would also be so honored to match the scholarship to make it a $150 scholarship.”
