Dance Classes with NHAPA (ages 2 and up)

Our experience makes all the difference in your experience! Since 1957, NHAPA has provided quality dance training to over 20,000 students and now 3 generations. Our professional faculty bring a wealth of knowledge, training & experience to our students. Our mission is to inspire and educate while motivating students to develop the skills needed to help them lead a more fulfilling, productive and happy life. Improving self-discipline, confidence, self-esteem, work ethic and team work are all part of the life enhancing skills we work to develop through the art of dance. Our goal is to foster success in the arts, at school and in life!

Winter 2024 – Youth Programs
Creative Dance (ages 2.9-5 years)

45 mins on Mondays at 3:30pm or Saturdays at 9:15am
14 weeks/one day a week: $210 ($15/class)

Creative Dance is a fun, interactive class to introduce young students to dance. Through music, singing, dance games, and props students will practice their understanding of balance, rhythm, movement, coordination, and basic ballet steps. This class will include age-appropriate movement that helps strengthen both fine and gross motor skills. In this learning environment, students will also work on developing skills such as self-confidence, discipline, structure, and also work on social skills like taking turns, making friends, teamwork, and listening.

We have an optional up-grade to join the annual performance on stage at The Music Hall. The $100 cost includes, rehearsals and costuming.

Acro Programs

Youth Acro (ages 6-12 years)
No experience is required for Acro. Each student will work at their individual pace on the skills they are ready to learn. Acro dance will compliment current students that wish to invest time and effort into improving overall flexibility to start. From there, skills can be added. Acro dance has several benefits, including helping to improve a dancers strength, flexibility, control, balance, as well as help prevent injuries. Throughout the intro session of this course, the dancers will all begin to build on these essential areas with basic training techniques to create a good platform and prepare them for more advanced moves.

Session: 9 weeks
Fridays: 3:30-4:30pm
Dates: 2/16, 2/23, 3/8, 3/15, 3/29, 4/12, 4/19, 5/3, 5/10
Cost: $180 (½ installments $90 12/15 and 2/15)

Acro dance has several benefits, including helping to improve a dancers strength, flexibility, control, balance, as well as help prevent injuries. Throughout this course, the dancers will continue to build on these essential areas they have worked on previously, and continue to work towards more advanced moves.

For our more experienced and older acro dancers. Available by invitation only.

Traditional Season Programs September 2023 – May 2024

Primary Basics (ages 4-6) 45 min
The primary basics levels of dance will further lay a foundation in both elementary ballet and tap technique continuing to foster a love of movement and music. We will build on proper terminology, simple combinations, progressions, rhythm, flexibility, coordination and balance. Students will begin to understand the concepts of moving in basic dance patterns, dancing with partners and as a group. Dress code required.

Hip Hop Basics (4.5-7 years) 60 min
Hip Hop Basics is an introductory class to the style of Hip Hop. We explore basic movements and concepts using lots of visual and vocal cues to help with sequencing skills. This class is perfect fit for energetic students! Hip Hop Sneakers required. No dress code required.

Ballet/Tap Combo (7-9 years) 75 min
This 75 minute class provides a transition for students who have taken Ballet Basics with the intention of moving on to Ballet I. Students will begin to complete ballet steps in sequence with a stronger focus on proper terminology and technique. Students will continue to develop their balance, musicality, coordination & flexibility. This class will also introduce students to tap. This class is designed to challenge young students to retain choreography in both ballet and tap genres. Dress code required.

Level I- Level III (Ages 8 +up)
Ballet I 45 min
Ballet I focuses on the fundamentals of ballet technique. The class emphasizes proper placement, developing strength, building endurance, and increasing flexibility through center and across the floor exercises.

Ballet II 45 min
Introduces a traditional ballet class structure. Students learn fundamental ballet technique through barre work, center exercises, and across the floor combinations designed to improve coordination, flexibility, endurance, and musicality.

Ballet III 60 min
The class focuses on intermediate barre work, center exercises, and across the floor combinations. Students learn technique and placement, while emphasizing musicality. Combinations to strengthen the legs, feet, and ankles are introduced to prepare for more advanced training.

Jazz I 45 min – Jazz II 45 min – Jazz III 60 min
​Jazz I, Jazz II, and Jazz III are designed to continue the progression of skills in jazz dance including style, technique, and rhythmic structures of jazz dance with emphasis on increasing movement capabilities and personal expression. Students will learn jazz technique, focusing on jazz dance terminology, turns, jumps, and leaps. Students will also learn center and loco motor progressions as well as proper stretching techniques to enhance strength and flexibility.

Hip Hop I 45 min – Hip Hop II 45 min- Hip Hop III 60 min
Hip Hop I, Hip Hop II, and Hip Hop III are designed to continue the progression of skills in hip hop dance. Students will continue to develop rhythm, following choreography, body control, and performance skills. Hip Hop techniques such as isolations, body control, bounces, rocks, & digs will be introduced in order to establish various grooves and rhythm patterns.

Tap II – Tap V
I 45-60 min
Tap II and Tap III Students will continue to focus on timing, rhythm, coordination and musicality. Students will work on clarity of tap sounds on both the right and left side. Students will be introduced to a series of tap combinations and steps in more detailed/intricate patterns.

Contemporary I/II – Contemporary III 60 min – Contemporary IV 60 min
Contemporary I/II to Contemporary III introduces movement techniques of contemporary dance, with emphasis on aesthetic and expressive qualities. Within this progression, students will practice contralateral movement, efficiency in floor work including transitioning in and out of the floor, and demonstrating their understanding of fully embodied movement.

Teen Hip Hop I 60 min ​
This curriculum includes stretching, progressions, combinations and choreography for progressing students with a passion for hip-hop.

Musical Theatre I 45-60 min
This class is designed for students that love being on stage and performing. This jazz-based class focuses on dance styles found in Broadway musicals. Students not only learn dance technique, but also work on showmanship.

Modern Technique I 60 min
An introduction to modern dance, designed to enable students to experientially understand and appreciate this art form, its discipline and its creativity. Includes basic modern dance technique and movement principles. Modern dance builds a foundation for a dancing practice that revolves around improvisational skills, initiating spontaneous physicality and movement with a heightened body knowledge/awareness. Class focus is on specificity of movement, contralateral movement, efficiency within floor work , and movement trajectories.

Our Company

Elite Petite
The Elite Petite group is for our students ages 6-12 years old that have showed their dedication to dance, even at a young age. These students are advancing to join the our company in the future. This group offers accelerated classes for these dancers as well as additional performance opportunities with our company members.

​Our new season of Elite Petites for 2023-2024 will get started in late summer/early fall with an invitation and placement class.
