Close to Closing! Building Block Commons is under contract to expand to a second location at Eastman’s Corner!

Have you already heard about the exciting possibility of an expansion for Building Block Commons (BBC) at Eastman’s Corner?

Building Block Commons of Exeter is currently under contract with the Alnoba Lewis Family Foundation and looking forward to closing the deal very soon so they can begin to open a second location at Eastman’s Hall in Kensington. This beautiful land and buildings will be the potential home for their middle and high school students as well as a community space for hands-on learning, creativity, and connection.

What else?
Wren Hayes, the Owner and School Principal of BBC shared a tidbit about this expansion including a collaboration with Kath Gallant (who you may know from Blue Moon Evolution previously in downtown Exeter and many community cooking programs.) BBC is building a unique opportunity that will nourish students and the broader community alike. Imagine stopping by for a grilled cheese after soccer practice or catching a pop-up student-led café! For students this means a new Chef/Home-Economics program that will offer amazing lunches on this new school property.

The new campus promises personalized academic tracks, emphasis on practical skills, and an immersive school culture that extends beyond four walls.

“As the hopeful future owners, we are committed to preserving this cherished space as is, investing in modern fire suppression to protect it for generations to come.” said Wren.

Parent buzz
Seacoast Kids caught up with a current and long time parent of a BBC student: Megg Thompson (of Megg Thompson Behavior) to find out how she felt about the news of a potential school move for her son.

“Brennen has been in the same amazing school space in Exeter for 7 years. As he grows, a move and change to a new incredible environment in his 8th grade year will set him up for flexibility, a growth mindset, and strength to get through new experiences he will have in the future. I am so thankful he gets to conquer this endeavor with the BBC support he has been accustomed to. What a fabulous way to jump on a new path, with safety and LOVE!”

What’s next?
This deal is still very much in progress. BBC continues to navigate Planning and Zoning board meetings, working diligently alongside the town of Kensington, law enforcement and DOE to allow this commercially zoned space to be used as a hub for education in a safe and community driven way. As an LLC in a commercial zone, they will continue contributing to the tax base of the town of Kensington while bringing skilled supports to the community.

There are still many steps ahead but just as they they teach their own students, you can only do enormous things by collaborating, communicating and taking the first steps!
