Lighting of the Pumpkins & Trick-or-Treat in York
October 30, 2023 @ 3:30 PM - 6:00 PM
FreeEnjoy some spooky fun in 18th-century style! Trick-or-Treat from 3:30 to 6pm at Old York’s historic buildings in York Village, including Jefferds Tavern, York Corner Schoolhouse, Emerson-Wilcox House, and the Old Gaol. Creepy characters and ghosts of Halloweens past will hand out candy to those who have the courage to knock on Old York’s historic doors.
The fifth annual Lighting of the Pumpkins begins at approximately 5pm. The walls of the Old Burying Ground in York Village are illuminated with jack-o’-lanterns in a spectacular sight! The pumpkins are lit for several hours, and extinguished around 8pm. Stop by to enjoy a magical scene, and enjoy the Afterglow at the Tavern, from 5 to 7pm. Hearty hearth-cooked soup and bread will be available at historic Jefferds Tavern, along with local beer and cider. $10, beer and cider additional. Payable at the door.
Children of all ages are invited to help Old York fill the stone walls around the Old Burying Ground with pumpkins. Join Old York for a community pumpkin-carving event on Sunday, October 29, 12 to 4pm. We provide the pumpkin—you bring the carving tools! Otherwise, carved pumpkins may be dropped off at the Old York Museum Center, 3 Lindsay Road, on Sunday, October 29, or Monday, October 30, 11am to 2pm.
Jack-o’-lanterns may be picked up by their makers after 8pm on October 30 or the next day. Any remaining pumpkins will be composted on November 1.
This event is FREE and open to the public.
