Come explore what nature has in store at some of our most amazing wild places on the North Shore! Joppa Flats Education Coordinator Lisa Hutchings and her team will introduce families to local forests, beaches, and wetlands to make observations in nature, identify wildlife, and enjoy hands-on science activities outdoors. Sign up for one, some, or all!
Joppa Flats will provide all field gear and equipment. This is not a drop-off class; all children must be accompanied by at least one adult. All adults are expected to participate in the program.
1/28: Winter Migrants & Winter Residents at Salisbury Beach State Reservation, Salisbury. New time will be 12-2 P.M.
2/4: How Do Animals Manage the Cold? in the riverside yard at Joppa Flats Education Center, Newburyport
2/11: Eagle Fest: Bald Eagles are Coming Back! at Cashman Park, Newburyport
3/4: Climate Action at New England Aquarium, Boston (special hours and fees; registration deadline 2/10)
3/11: Tracks & Signs on the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge
4/1: Who’s Laying Eggs? at Rough Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary, Rowley
4/8: Coastal Challenges on our Shore at Plum Island Beach, Newburyport
4/15: Welcome Back Birds! at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, Newbury
4/22: Estuary Experiments in the salt marsh at Joppa Flats Education Center, Newburyport
Instructions and Directions:
Prior to the program, you will receive an email with information on where to meet, parking and facilities details, driving directions, and other guidelines plus Covid-19 safety protocols. Dress for the weather and terrain.
