Center for Wildlife Virtual Snow Days!
December 29, 2021 @ 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
$10During winter break week, the Center for Wildlife is offering virtual programming to help your family have fun and learn more about wildlife. Our virtual programs will include meet-and-greets with our animal ambassadors, crafts, activities, and storybook readings! We have different activities each day, so join us for just one event or for the whole series.
For programs that include crafts, we will have kits available for pick-up at the Center for Wildlife or can provide a list of materials if you will be attending the program from further afield.
Monday, December 27th, 11am-12pm: Animal Tracks
Learn about the tracks and sign that help us know what animals live in our backyards! Then our educator will show you how to make salt dough and create track impressions in the dough. This program includes a craft.
Monday, December 27th, 2-3 pm: Winter Adaptations. This program is wonderful for all ages. We will introduce several wildlife ambassadors and talk about how they adapt to Maine’s winter weather.
Tuesday, December 28th, 2-3 pm: All About Owls. Meet some of our owl ambassadors, learn about their calls, behavior, and adaptations, and then our educator will walk you through an owl pellet dissection! Owl pellets for this activity can be picked up at the Center for Wildlife.
Wednesday, December 29th, 11 am-12 pm: Hide-and-Seek with Wildlife. Learn about how wildlife camouflage themselves in different habitats. Then, use your camouflage know-how to create a wildlife mask! This program includes a craft.
Wednesday, December 29th, 1-2 pm: ‘Heronymus Heron Discovers His Shadow’ Author Reading. Join the Center for Wildlife and author Janice Williams for a reading from Janice’s book, ‘Heronymus Heron Discovers His Shadow.’ This is a fun story about a Great Blue Heron who feels different and along until his shadow convinces him otherwise. We will also have coloring pages to accompany the story available for pick-up here at CFW.
Thursday, December 30th, 11 am-12 pm: Plant and Tree ID with Henry
Learn about tree ID with Henry, CFW’s porcupine ambassador! After we learn how to identify the trees Henry enjoys, we’ll create tree ornaments that also provide food for wildlife! This program includes a craft.
