(wipes mouth with napkin) OMG. I’ve been wanting to try Lexie’s Joint, an upscale mostly-burger eatery, for some time…and now that I have, I fear I may spend my entire year’s salary while sitting atop a window-side bar stool eating one of the most delicious burgers I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.

The Vibe
Located on Islington in the “first location of Mojo’s”, Lexie’s Joint is modern-retro with a funky yet simple interior. When we arrived a few minutes before 11:30am, the “Shut” sign was on the door (clever), but they quickly opened after seeing my son and me staring longingly through the window.  When you need a burger, you need a burger, ok?

The dining area has about 6 high top tables and then a counter that runs along the front windows. Kids love sitting at the bar for some reason so our seat selection was clearly predetermined. Saddle up.

On The Menu
With a tagline like “Peace…Love…Burgers”, you can guesstimate the mainstay of the menu. But similar to the general vibe, the burger options and toppings are also unique. All burgers are 4oz. (which is actually the perfect size) and served on a grilled bun—but you can also choose from things like caramelized onions, tomato confit, house pickles and bleu cheese. There are three specialty burgers on the menu and another 3 to 4 daily burger specials.

We ordered a Burning Down the House burger (jalapenos, pepper jack and chipotle aioli), a Meatloaf Burger (burger topped with meatloaf and cheddar) and a child’s burger with just cheese (the $4 children’s menu also includes grilled cheese, and although it’s not on the menu, Lexi offered to cook us chicken fingers when my originally inquired about his options). All burgers ($6-$7)—which by the way, are the juiciest burgers I’ve ever come across—come with shoestring handcut French fries (soooo good) and each meal ends with a miniature homemade chocolate chip cookie. YES.

Beverages include fun retro “vintage” soda in cool glass bottles ($2.50), or you can order lemonade, cucumber mint lemonade or shakes and floats ($4-5) as a special treat. Selections of wine and beer are also available.

Not to be left out, the “Tasty Sides” ($3) are aptly named with offerings like Herbed Parmesan French Fries and a special that we ordered, Homemade Tater Tots which were like a deep fried ball of mashed potatoes topped with jalapeno cheese sauce. De-lish.

Oh, and as a side note, they also offer a selection of salads, soups and chicken or pork sandwiches. I’m not sure I’ll ever get to those though.

What’s The Damage?
For three of us, our check was around $25 which initially sounds high for three burgers….but these aren’t any burgers. Eat in or take out, the restaurant was super clean, the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating and we left feeling full and not fat. Always a good thing.

The Bottom Line (based on a five-star rating):
Distraction Offering: ???½ (although my son loved the bar seats, he did mention he was “bored”. I should have brought my coloring book stash from the car.)
Atmosphere: ????  (funky, fun and very clean)
Food: ?????   (the best burger. Ever.)
Affordability: ???¾  (the regular menu is affordable, but drinks can rack up your bill)
Service: ????½  (very friendly and accommodating)

    great review!!

“and now that I have, I fear I may spend my entire year’s salary while sitting atop a window-side bar stool eating one of the most delicious burgers I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.”

as someone who checks the burger specials each day, I can confirm, you will be spending more on bugers than ever before!! but no regrets, I never thought I’d have burgers with meatloaf, or duck confit, or even a crab cake on them, but I’m so glad I have!! the creativity of the specials is a big part of the charm for me.

My wife and I have been eating at this fabulous restaurant for about five to nine dollars. The cuban sandwich, great beers, second to none fries, and wonderful staff are amongst our favorites. The price is right, and so are the people whom run the joint. Keep on trucking Lexie’s, good stuff indeed.
