Thursdays are Storytime with the animals (real ones!) at the SPCA.

Everyone knows that the New Hampshire SPCA is a loving community for pets awaiting adoption, but did you realize how much fun you can have there?

If you are an animal lover, the SPCA offers all kinds of opportunities to interact with the animals. Every Thursday morning, the Learning Center welcomes children 2-5 years old for Story Time with the Animals. Children listen to a story about an animal, color a picture of an animal and visit with REAL animals in the classroom (hamsters, bunnies, birds, chinchillas and sometimes kittens, awwww!).

The SPCA is always looking for donations to help foster a loving environment for their temporary house guests. Grab a bag of kitty litter or dog food and drop it off at the front desk—you can be sure it’ll be put to good use! After, take a walk around and visit with the kitties that roam and lounge in their shared “bedrooms” (not stuck in those little cages like a sad pet shop) or get some tails waggin’ by walking through the dog kennels and saying hello to the canine counterparts. Bigger animals more your game? Check out the horses in the back stables!

Whether you are in the market to adopt a family pet, or just show some love to those waiting for a happy home, the SPCA welcomes you. Me-ow!

NHSPCA offers “Reading With Animals”
Children in grades 1-8 who are able to read at any level are invited to the NHSPCA to read to either the cats in our community rooms, a friendly dog, or a small animal from the Humane Ed classroom. The program will help children improve their reading skills while also helping the animals by providing socialization and human interaction.

In order to participate, children must be registered in advance by calling Paula Parisi, Manager of Humane Education Programs at 603-772-2921, ext. 113. Dates are the fourth Wednesday of each month beginning in January and going through May. Times are at 20 minute intervals between 3:00 and 5:00 PM. Click here for more details.
