Give the gift of reading this Father’s Day! Our favorite “dad” books to read with the kids!

Bedtime books are such a special time of the day for child-parent bonding. With Father’s Day coming up, we’ve created a list for you of our favorite “Dad” books that would make great gifts.

Here is a list of books that are great father child read-alouds for this Father’s Day!

Because I’m Your Dad by Ahmet Zappa: This is a favorite read aloud in our house. I bought it for my husband for his first father’s day in board book form. The book follows along with a monster dad and his monster child and all the fun and crazy things the father will do with his son. The end wraps it up with “because that’s what my dad did for me” which makes me tear up.

Daddy Hugs by Karen Katz is a great board book for new dads; it is a great companion to Mommy Hugs by Karen Katz. Kids and dads can snuggle and hug along with this book.

Made for Me by Zack Bush is told through the voice of a father about loving the child from the moment he or she is born and as they grow older. Sweet with beauitful illustrations, this is a great read for dads and kids.

The Family Book by Todd Barr: We read this book often, but be warned that it comes with LOTS of follow up questions from my inquisitive four year old. However, it is a great way to help answer young kids’ questions about families. I know I get a lot of questions around mother’s and father’s days about kids that my daughter knows who may not have moms or dads in their daily lives. This book talks about how all families have different makeups. A great book around this time of year and all year long.

A Different Pond by Bao Phi: This is a beautiful, lyrical book about a father and son who fish on a small pond. But this father-son fishing trip takes on more significance as the young boy’s father takes this opportunity to share about a different pond in his homeland of Vietnam. The art is gorgeous and the story & words perfect for a second or third grader to read with his or her father (ages 6-8).

A more interactive choice of book is Made by Dad: 67 Blueprints for Making Cool Stuff by Scott Bedford. This inspired book of 67 projects shows dads and their kids how to make things everyone will enjoy. Detailed instructions and full-color photographs keep things simple, and there creations that can be done on the fly while waiting for a meal or more complex projects to be done over hours or days.

For the special grandfathers in our lives, the little critter book “Just Grandpa and Me” and “How to Babysit a Grandpa” are great choices.
