1863 - The First Official Thanksgiving at the NH Farm Museum

NH Farm Museum

Rte 125
Milton, NH 03851

In 1863 Lincoln proclaimed the first national Thanksgiving Day in the midst of the Civil War. Here on the farm, we recreate the experience as people enact the roles of the family members and what Thanksgiving at that time would have been. Enjoy light refreshments, hands-on activities.

Ride a horse-drawn sleigh or wagon depending on snow and come inside and sing while "Emily" plays the parlor piano for your Over The River And Through The Woods experience.

Learn about Sarah Josepha Hale, a New Hampshirite and the individual most responsible for making Thanksgiving a national holiday.
