BioBlitz is a daylong species scavenger hunt in Odiorne Point State Park, where families explore alongside scientists and field experts to find and record data on as many different species in the Park as possible in one day. Exploration teams will be birding, searching for insects, snakes and amphibians, exploring the freshwater pond and salt marsh, tracking mammals, identifying plants and seaweeds, tide pooling and more. Odiorne's 135 acres and seven distinctly different habitats make it a unique and fascinating place to explore and learn. Attendees can sign up to participate in all or part of the day.
The total number of species identified since SSC's first BioBlitz in 2003 tops 2,263 and continues to grow every year. In 2017, 417 participants identified 601 species, 26 of which were new to the list. This valuable catalogue serves as a snapshot of biodiversity of the Seacoast region. This event not only helps monitor biodiversity, it also provides countless educational opportunities for school children, families and groups.
BioBlitz is $10 per person or $30 per family (up to 6 people). Seacoast Science Center members are FREE! Join today and save. Members, please register if you plan to attend.
Please note: online registration closes Friday, September 20 at 12:00pm. Admission to Odiorne Point State Park will apply for those who do not register for BioBlitz in advance.
