OMG, Texting Behind The Wheel Is So Not Worth It.

I always thought those Baby On Board signs that people hang in their car were super obnoxious. That is, until I had a baby on board. I’d be driving somewhere with my little bundle of joy and see people swerving all over the road while talking on their cell phones, changing the radio station, reading the paper or eating a salad (true story) and would get so infuriated at their lack of concern for road safety. I’ve got precious cargo here, jacka$$!

As a population, we’ve recently taken an even more lackadaisical approach to driving by whipping out our cell phones for a quick text. I will come clean and admit that I have texted behind the wheel, but months ago I made a commitment to cease and desist. The thought of injuring my children, myself or another family-filled car because I had to share my thoughts on last night’s episode of The Bachelorette with a girlfriend is simply unacceptable. Just think about the repercussions for a moment…I guarantee whatever you had to convey in a text isn’t worth the unthinkable.

I’m not going to get all Oprah on you a declare a “No Phone Zone” in the car because sometimes it’s necessary to make or answer a call, and with the latest in voice technology and blue tooth, sometimes it’s not even necessary to take your eyes away from the road. But let’s make a collective pact as caring parents to text only when you’re safely outside of a moving vehicle. Who’s with me?
